It has been a long time dream for us
to know our valley people spread across the country and the globe. This has been one of the motivations behind www.syhlleti.org. With time, we are
evolving into a global/local social institution from a Documentation site. This
has not happened overnight and nor by our effort. Times dictated it and people
sanctioned it. Our core members and dedicated readers, contributors, most of
them were born in our mountain guarded, river washed, tea garden surrounded
Valley. This Valley of Barak connects to its sister Valley of Surma-Kushiara,
and this connection goes further into history and its various meanings. This is
the context where www.syhlleti.org moots
the idea of a Non-Resident Barak Valley Association – PRABHAV – an acronym that
means – to influence.
PRABHAV is an association of
people who are spread far and wide, for various reasons. It also includes those
people who are in the Valley and some of them will be non-residents in future for
reasons not very different than those who already are. The Prabasis have
a rich treasury of wealth, experience, exposure and sadness. They have
succeeded. They have fought against an unknown and hostile world at times and
proved themselves. But all of them, without exception have told us how they
remember their Valley, with a deep sense of emotion and gratitude and also – with
a sense of strange pride.
We are going to formally
launch PRABHAV – a non-profit organization, consisting of Prabasis of
Barak Valley as well as Barakbasis. This will be the first
Non-resident organization from the Valley. It will be an association, which
will be joint corpus of Fund, People, Expertise and Concern. It motto will be
to live upto its name to Influence Opinion, Solution, Education, Training,
Health, Social issues of the Valley. It will use Internet work as well as
People’s Network. In its final scope,
it will be functioning at home for development and outside, a global point
where any Barakbasi may seek help, idea, and support or may provide it.
The launch takes place
on 10th November’2002 at Silchar. We are writing to all people whom
we know to ask how they feel about it – and to be a member if they wish so. To
reach a wider audience, we are putting this in the Web and also for those who
might know us through our site but whom we may not know. Please write about
