OUR EXPERIENCE

Our experience is the experience of a community which has suffered historical earthquakes and we were in one of the epicentres. Ours was the case of East-West quake which rocked, divided and finally made the existing frontiers of the subcontinent of India - in 1947, in 1971 and beyond.

Within two generations, our preceeding generations became statenloss - a community without and not within a state. We not only crossed rivers as refugee but shared experiences of holocaust in its most intense form ; in its most time-squeezed manner. We are the thread of history in one sense where we have stitched ruptured frontiers and are part of the broken fabric and the fabric was our collective psyche.

The most towering, the most refined, the most thoughtful of this community cannot escape this recurring insight - we are different, we have been forced to be different ; we have to be in search of imaginary homelands.
