Moses, the man of God
A study
Part 7
The ten plagues
Exo.7-11
And Jehovah said to Moses, Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, so that I may set these signs of Mine in their midst. And so that you may recount in the ears of your son and the son of your son what I exerted Myself to do against Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, and you may know that I am Jehovah. (Exo.10: 1,2)

The magicians' reactions
The magicians could imitate Moses and Aaron through their enchantments in showing some of the signs. This shows that Satan also has some power to show signs and wonders. And Satan's power keeps us in bondage to sin and death. We should not be deceived by the power of the enemy. We should fear and obey the Lord our God who alone can deliver us from the power of sin and death. (Deut.13: 1-5) During the 6th plague, we find that the boils appeared on the faces of the magicians also. All the magicians, astrologers, diviners and foretellers of this world cannot even save themselves. (Isa.47: 13-15)
Compromises proposed by Pharaoh
The compromises proposed by Pharaoh are very much similar to the compromises urged upon believers today by the enemy to prevent us from coming into the full purposes and blessings of our dear Lord. Pharaoh gave the following four suggestions to Moses and the people. He was urging them to compromise with him and remain yoked with him, and not to completely sever their relationship with him and Egypt. In this way he was denying total separation and complete freedom.
- Sacrifice in the land
- Go not very far
- Go men only
- Go but let your flocks remain behind.
We can receive the true and heavenly blessings in abundant measure when we commit ourselves totally to our Lord, completely separating from this evil world. We must order our individual, family and business life according to the will of our Lord without making any compromise with this world. Be not conformed to the world (Rom.12: 1,2). Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers What part has he that believes with the infidel? Wherefore come out from them and be you separate and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
Typological significance
Ten plagues were brought upon Egypt in history and these plagues point to the complete judgement, which will be brought upon the kingdom of the Antichrist in the future. These future judgements are described in the book of Revelation through the opening of seven seals, the blowing of seven trumpets and the pouring out of seven vials of wrath. Three sets of seven judgments point to complete Divine judgment. At the end of these 10 plagues, all the Israelites were delivered from Egypt and taken to their Promised Land. After the end of the future judgements, the Lord Jesus Christ will return (as Moses returned to Egypt after 40 years) and will regather all the Jews scattered allover the world (Egypt) and restore them back to their Promised Land.
