About Dr. K. Gireesh, MD,DM,MCh,PhD,DSc.


Dr.K. Gireesh obtained the following qualifications from the University of Chennai - obtained his Doctorate in Medicine (M.D. General Medicine) in April 1981, subsequently took his Doctorate in Neurology in April 1984 and further obtained M.Ch Neurosurgery (5 yrs course) in october 1990. Dr.K. Gireesh is the first in India and whole of Asia to acquire the unique qualification of being both neurophysician and neurosurgeon.

Dr.K. Gireesh has been awarded Ph.D., by International University of Ceylon for his work in multi modality therapy of pain and further the same university conferred D.Sc. for his academic excellence. He also obtained a Doctorate in Acupuncture, Beijing. Further he has also been awarded a Ph.D. by College of Chest Physicians, Delhi.

Dr.K. Gireesh had further undergone higher fellowship programme in neurology and neurosurgery in Fujita Health University, Japan in various microneurosurgical procedures including skull base surgery and C.T Guide stereotaxic procedures. Further he had also acquired knowledge and training in Gamma Knife therapy and Neuroendoscopy. Dr.K. Gireesh has been conferred visiting professorship to Fujita Health University, Japan. Dr.K. Gireesh on a special invitation had delivered a guest lecture on "Brain Tuberculoma" for neurosurgery update for 100 young neurosurgeons from Asia held at Nagoya, Japan in November 1993. On september 1995 Dr.K. Gireesh had been to University of Mainz, Germany to attend a specialised update programme on minimally invasive neurosurgery including neuronavigation and training in neuroendoscopy. Dr.K. Gireesh is a very hard working, sincere, straight forward, quite clever and skillful neurosurgeon. He is highly academic, extraordinarily brilliant and has a sharp intellect with strong leadership qualities and also considerable interest in scientific research. He has innovative ideas. In addition he is very much dedicated in the total care of neurological and neurosurgical patients.

Dr.K. Gireesh has presented a number of scientific papers both at National and International scientific meetings. He is a fellow member of several scientific bodies. He was awarded guest professorship to Fujita Health University in Japan in 1993. According to Prof. Tetsuo Kanno, Japan, with the encyclopedic knowledge acquired by being both a neurophysician and neurosurgeon, Dr.K. Gireesh is indeed an "Ideal Neurosurgeon".

Dr.K. Gireesh has conducted more than 50 mega medical camps at various villages in Tamil Nadu.

Dr.K. Gireesh has been honoured with more than 55 awards by various voluntary organisations, including Chevalier Knight of Honour of the Noble and Royal Order of St.George and Rose of America, Man of Asia Gold Award, Mother Theresa Award of Excellence, Priya Darshini Indira Gandhi Award, Dr.C.V. Raman Award of Honour, Rajiv Gandhi Award of Excellence, Eminent Citizen of India award, Best Doctor Award, Talented Practitioners Award, Medicina Alternativa Award of excellence.

Dr.K. Gireesh is a visiting consultant, neurophysician and neurosurgeon to Sarala Neurology Hospital and Research Centre, 752, Poonamallee High Road, Kilpauk, Chennai - 600 010. as well as to many of the leading private institutions in the city.

Dr.K. Gireesh is a voracious reader and loves to play golf and tennis. He has also travelled world wide.
