Dr. D. THIRUNAKKARASU
is a graduate in engineering from Government College of
Technology, Coimbatore in 1969. He joined in the Highways
Department in 1971 as an Assistant Engineer. He obtained his Post
Graduation from College of Engineering, Guindy, in 1984. He is
also a Bachelor of Law degree holder from Madras Law College in
1988. He got a Post Graduate Diploma in Road Transport Management
from University of Madras in 1985. He obtained his Doctoral degree
from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in the subject,
"Analysis of Road Surface Texture and Tribological Studies on
Road Tyre Interface", during May,2001.
Lately he was in
Highways Research Station as Deputy Director looking after the Bitumen
and Aggregate Division and the overall administration of the
Highways Research Station. He was in this Research and Development
Institution since, 1978. He has retired from the Government
Service by 31st August, 2003. He currently acts as the Principal
of Vel Sri Rangarajan Sagunthala College of Multimedia
(Engineering), Avadi, Chennai - 600 062.
He is the life member
of Indian Roads Congress, Indian
Society for Technical Education, Safety Association of Southern
India, Institution of Traffic and Transportation Engineers, Indian
Concrete Institute, International Centre For Fibre Reinforced
Concrete Composites, and Indian Geo-technical Society and Fellow of
Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Institution of Production Engineers, Indian Institution of
Bridge Engineers, etc. He has also served as a Council of Member
of Indian Roads Congress since 1999, for three terms, elected
consecutively. He has also served as an Executive Committee Member
for two years in Indian Geo-technical Society. Again he is currently the executive committee
member of the society. He has since been
elected as a Committee Member of the Tamilnadu State Centre of the
Institution of Engineers(India) for the years 2002-03 and 2003-04.
He has authored more
than 75 technical papers in different journals. He is an active
faculty in Training Programs being conducted for in service
engineers of Highways Department. He has delivered a series of
more than 100 technical lectures in different technical and
academic institutions. He has attended more than 125 seminars/
conferences/ workshops/ symposiums. He is representing in
different technical committees of Indian Roads Congress, Bureau of
Indian Standards, etc. He has guided several students for their
Post Graduate and Undergraduate studies in engineering. Currently
he is guiding five Ph.D. candidates of Anna University, as
Research Supervisor. He is also serving as a member in their
respective Doctoral Committees.
