125 Years old Prestigious Club in INDIA
The Cosmopolitan Club has a history of more than 125 years having been formed on 6th October, 1873. The Club was originally located at the "CLUB HOUSE", Moores Gardens. This was taken on rent from the Hon'ble Mir Humayun Jha Bahadur, a great grandson of Tippu Sultan. He was also, for several years, the President of the Club.
Amenities such as playing Cards, Billiards and Refreshment were provided from the commencement itself. Infact, Liquor was also available although the demand was very little.
The monthly subscription in 1873 for a City Member, who was called Resident Member, was Rs.3/- and for the Mofussil Member Re.1/-. Lawn Tennis was started in the year 1878.
The Club has been inviting men of distinction to the Club and honouring them. In 1915, Mahatma Gandhi was invited to the Club, also the Price of Wales and King Edward VIII visited the Club on Jan '14. 1922. Noble Laureate RabindranathTagore also visited the Club once.
The Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr.M.Karunanidhi and the Worshipful Mayor of Chennai Mr.M.K.Stalin have been made Honorary Members of this Prestigious Club.
The Platinum Jubilee of the Club was celebrated in 1954. In 1998, the club celebrated its Post Centenary Silver Jubilee Function.
The institution has a glorious past and the Club has built up high and noble traditions. It has acquired the distinction of being one of the oldest and prominent clubs not only in Chennai but also the whole of India. There are a number of Clubs both in India and abroad affiliated to the Cosmopolitan Club.
The Club has been conducting several international Golf Tournaments in the Golf Wing for the last several years.

A/c, T.V. etc., There are about 28 Rooms and 2 Suits.
The Club runs A/c Bar at upstairs and a Mini Bar at the Lawn.
The Club is having a grand Library at upstairs which has a collection of a large number of books catering to the need of members from various walks of life and their children.
The Club has contributed Rs.25 lacs towards "KARGIL RELIEF FUND". The same has been handed over to the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr.M.Karunanidhi.
On the Administrative side the Club is providing employment to nearly 300 employees.

Air conditioned Ladies' lounge (Open from 12 Noon to 9 p.m.) T.V. is installed. Ladies Magazines are provided. A women attendant to take care of the needs !
Separate A/C Cards room for members to play the Game of Bridge.
Separate tables for spouse of members to play the game of cards.
Children to play Table Tennis at the Rear Auditorium as the parents take their dinner at the rear lawn.

A Multi-cuisine A/C Restaurant
An A/C Cards room with 3 tables and 18 chairs.
Childrens' park at rear lawn
Provision to throw Members' parties at the rear lawn.
Members and their dependants are requested to make the best use of the aforesaid added amenities.
The Internet facility has been introduced by Mr.C.RAJENDRAN - Honorary Treasurer in the year 1997-98.

OUR HOMAGE TO
SHRI M.ANNAMALAI (Our Former President)
The Club has lost its President Thiru M.ANNAMALAI. He passed away on 13th June 2004 while he was at Kadirgamam in Sri Lanka on a pilgirimage visit. It is, indeed, a profound loass to the club. His absence will be sorely felt. He was a person accessible to everyone.
The club places on record its deep sense of loss on the untimely demise of its President. May his sould rest in peace.
Sri.R SATHYANARAYANA (S 320) Vice President of the Club has assumed charge as the PRESIDENT OF THE CLUB with effect from 20-6-2004.
Sri.N.ANNAMALAI (A 104) a member of the Executive Committee has been co-opted as Vice-President.
