WHY CAG WAS CREATED
CAG came into existence on October 7, 1985 as a non-profit, non-political, voluntary and professional citizens' group. The Group was based on simple concepts - that there were many things to complaint about, that mere complaining was of little use, that the quality of our lives was deteriorating and that it could improve if we do something about it. Its declared objectives were therefore to provide a platform for citizens to represent consumer and environmental problems, evaluate the performance of public utilities, fight for governmental transparency and corporate accountability and to address issues of public health, development and safety.
WHO LOOKS AFTER CAG?
CAG is governed by a board of trustees consisting of eminent people from various fields, all residents of Chennai. The founder Trustee is Mr.S.Govind Swaminadhan, Senior advocate. Presently, the Trustees of CAG are:
Mr.C.V.Narasimhan, I.P.S.(Retd.);
Dr.M.Anandakrishnan, Educationalist;
Ms.Tara Murali, Architect;
Dr.S.Ambirajan, Economist;
Mr.Lawrence Surendra, Environmental Economist;
Ms.Prabha Sridevan, Advocate and;
Mr.N.L.Rajah, Advocate.
Mr.Sriram Panchu, Senior Advocate, one of the founding Trustees of the Group, is now the Advisor to the Group.
CAG has five full time personnel, who look after the day-to-day functioning of the Group. They are:

Ms.Shobha Iyer
Mr.Ahamed Kabir
Ms.V.Amudha
Mr.Albert Vijay
Apart from these people, CAG also has Mr.T.Mohan, Advocate, who looks after CAG's writ petitions and other cases before the various Courts in India. CAG also has Ms.P.Selvi, Advocate, who works part-time as a consumer counseller.
