Following are the brief explanation about my experience and some of the many projects that I handled in various organization.

Kuwait Public Transport Company (KPTC), Kuwait ð May 1995 to April 1999

Database Administrator cum Analyst

On behalf of The Information Center Co., Kuwait, I was working at KPTC as DBA cum Analyst. Here, I was managing and maintaining SQL Server 6.5 databases across the entire organization and took part in Analysis and Design of some applications. Following are the brief description of projects I worked, my responsibilities and duties.

Purchase Order, Stores and Job Order System using VB 5.0, SQL Server 6.5 and NT 4.0, Win 95.

An OLTP and multi-user system with based on three tier Client/Server Architecture with DCOM. The PO system is to automate quotation request, quotation comparison and PO. Stores system is to maintain stock, receipts, issues, transfers and adjustment etc. Job Order is to automate repair and maintenance of the buses, its cost, labour hours spent for different types of jobs and to print invoices.

Help Desk System for KPTC, Kuwait using VB 4.0, SQL Server 6.5 and NT 4.0, Win 95.

An OLTP, multi-user System based on three tier Client/Server Architecture and DCOM. The purpose is to automate Information System Department’s day to day activities, user problems and solutions, asset management for computer equipments to have better control over software and hardware purchases, storage, movements and installation.

  • Did Analysis and Design for HelpDesk System based on three tier Client/Server Architecture. Preparation of user requirement specifications and prototype, testing and implementation of the system.

  • Also worked as System coordinator for Analysis and Design, testing and implementation of business applications such as Purchase Order, Stores and Job Order System developed by a Software Consultant Company for KPTC. Responsible for final Testing and System Acceptance. Data conversion and validation, Implementation and user support.

  • DBA for SQL Server 6.5 which includes SQL Sever Installation and configuration, administration, backup and restore, trouble shooting and maintenance. Data conversion and management. Data Replication and fine tuning SQL Server.

  • Handled large amount of data. Data conversion from mainframe text files to SQL Server and MS Access Databases.

  • Also prepared various reports such as Backup and recovery procedures, Contingency Planning and Disaster Recovery, Replication and Creating Test environment etc.

Analyst/Programmer

Started in the capacity of Analyst/Programmer for customer as well as in-house projects, my responsibilities are increased as DBA and System Administrator. Over the period I was involved in analysis and design, developing and implementing various business applications for our clients. Given below are some of the projects and responsibilities I carried out.

Medical Records and Pharmacy System for Al-Salam Hospital, Kuwait using Informix 4GL & RDS 4.10, FourGen Casetool, Informix Online 5.0, SCO Unix 3.2.4.

An OLTP, multi-user to store patient data, diagnosis and treatment details, admission and discharge information, treatment history, patient invoicing, history of drugs given to individual in-patient’s. Inventory of the drugs stored by the pharmacy of the hospital that handled expired drugs to be placed on expiry files automatically. Also included point of sale for drugs to outpatients with bar code reader.

Exchange System for Kuwait Bahrain Exchange Co., Kuwait using Informix 4GL & RDS 4.10, FourGen Casetool, Informix Online 5.0, SCO Unix 3.2.4.

An OLTP, multi-user system to store customer information, print drafts in various currencies, maintain currency exchange rates, daily cash collections, bank reconciliation etc.

Payroll & Personnel System for Info Center, Kuwait using Informix 4GL & RDS 4.10, FourGen Casetool, Informix Online 5.0, SCO Unix 3.2.4.

An OLTP, multi-user system to store employee’s personal information including passport and visa details, process monthly payroll, yearly vacation, end of service and bank transfer etc. Also handled employee transaction for leave, advance, loan, overtime, increments etc. Reports such as Payslips, passport and visa expiry, employees pay history, leave history etc.

Project Time Management for Info Center, Kuwait using Informix 4GL & RDS 4.10, FourGen Casetool, Informix Online 5.0, SCO Unix 3.2.4.

An OLTP and multi-user system is to analyze and compare actual time and cost versus estimated to complete each project.

Talent Bank System for Info Center, Kuwait using Informix 4GL & RDS 4.10, FourGen Casetool, Informix Online 5.0, SCO Unix 3.2.4.

This system is to store the Applicant’s information comprising of his personal, educational, professional details and work experience in various field of his expertise that would help management to place competitive skills in each project.

  • Took part in user discussion, analysis and design of all the above mentioned systems with other team members. Analysis and Design as per SSADM standard. URS Preparation. Preparing project plan. Also involved in programming, testing and implementation.

  • Provided hardware platform set up support for some of our customer site.
  • User training and application maintenance support. User manual and technical manual preparation.

  • Installation, administration and maintenance of SCO UNIX operating system.
  • Support as DBA for Informix Database such as installation and configuration, database maintenance, backup and recovery.

  • Also did customization of ready-made package called FourGen Accounting including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Invoicing for Info Center Company.

The Unix Consulting Group, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia ð May 1990 to July 1992

Analyst/Programmer

Started in the capacity of Programmer, worked in different projects as a developer. Later on, my responsibilities were increased as an Analyst/Programmer and was working in that capacity till the end. Worked with a team of computer professionals. Given below are brief description of some of the projects I worked with and my responsibilities and experience.

Inventory & PO System for Panda Chain of Super Markets, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia using Oracle RDBMS 6.0, Oracle Forms 3.0, SQL Report & AT&T UNIX 5.4.

An OLTP, multi-user system to handle items in different warehouses in Riyadh that were received in bulk through shipment from different countries, Quotations and Purchase Orders, item receipts with expiry dates, daily issues to different supermarkets from the warehouses, stock control, sales price changes for group of items for certain period, automatic quotation request on daily basis for item that falls below minimum stock etc. Also included various stock related reports and decision support reports such as salesman analysis, item consumption on monthly basis, item consumption on super marketwise, fast moving items etc.

Job Order System for Al-Idris and Sons, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia using Oracle RDBMS 6.0, Oracle Forms 3.0, SQL Report & AT&T UNIX 5.4.

An OLTP, multi-user system to handle repair and maintenance of customer cars, cars under warranty and to produce invoice. System was written to trace occupied and available manpower, actual time spent versus specified time to do a particular type of job, spare parts used from stock, spare parts purchased from outside, to calculate labour hours and charges.

  • Did the programming for Inventory/PO System, testing of the application. Took part in implementation, Data conversion from mainframe text file to Oracle database, customer training and support.

  • Individually did the analysis and design of the Job Order System, took part in the development, testing and implementation of the system.

  • User Manual and Technical manual preparation.

  • Supported National Gas and Industrialization Company, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as Programmer on Informix 4GL for customization and maintenance of their existing business application.

  • Supported National Commercial Bank as a System administrator for AT&T UNIX. The job involved solving incurring operating system problems in their daily operation and assisting file transfer between branches and head office.

Philip Harris Intl Ltd., Seeb, Oman ð June 1986 to Sept. 1989

Programmer

Started in the capacity of Computer Operator to look after and maintain existing systems, later on my responsibilities are increased and was asked to design and develop following systems for the company. Subsequently, I was leading and managing the team of 4 people. Given below are the brief explanation of business applications I worked with and my responsibilities:

Inventory System, Variation Order, Deficiency System and Warranty System for Philip Harris Intl Ltd, Seeb, Oman using dBASE III Plus.

Inventory system to handle the equipment and items supplied to set up Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. The system was written to manage and monitor the supply of items to all the faculties of university, items that were installed and accepted, Items that were under warranty. Deficiency System to handle items that were found defective and sub-standard. Variation Order System is to maintain the changes made to the list of approved items under the master plan. Warranty Systems is to monitor and maintain the items that were under warranty.

Speedex Data Processing Pvt. Ltd., Bombay ð Apr. 1984 to Feb. 1986

Started my career as a Programmer at Speedex, a computer consultancy company. Involved in programming for many business applications for our client companies. Some of the projects I worked with are given below:

Publication Distribution System for K. B. & Sons Pvt. Ltd., Bombay, India using Basic

Developed a Publication Distribution System for delivering Times of India news paper and other related magazines and articles to the wholesale vendors in entire Bombay city on daily basis, magazine copies on weekly or fortnightly basis. The system consists of reports on daily distribution analysis, market consumption for different Magazines, areawise consumption for entire city etc.

Invoicing System for Bright Paints Ltd., Bombay, India using Basic.

Developed an Invoicing System that was responsible to print invoices for Bright Paints customers across India. The system was written to take different areawise taxes and appropriate discounts, pick up recent sale price etc. It also had reports such as salesman commission & performance. Management reports such as Sales analysis, Sales comparison report, Customer Analysis, Product Performance etc.
